An Orderly Upbringing

According to the Disney tie-in material, the First Order's recruitment and training program was based on the Jedi recruitment and training program by its creator, Brendo Hux. There's a lot to unpack there, but let's start with the basics. How are the training programs of the Jedi Order and the First Order similar and how did they differ? What do those similarities and differences say about them as institutions?

Let's break it down

Looks to me like you covered a lot of the bases here--- I can't really think of anything to add.

I think the reason the First Order, and specifically Hux Senior, used the Jedi Order as a template is simply because it worked. Why reinvent the wheel when you can just tweak it a little for your particular needs and situation?

I also have longer--- much, much longer!--- thoughts about the Jedi Order and its relationship to the Republic, and specifically why serving a temporal power became a problem for them, here.

Oh, yeah, the Order's model was incredibly effective from the point of view of holding temporal power, and specifically temporal power in an at least primarily martial capacity, with a side order of "we are the moral authority here"--- which is all Brendol Hux would've cared about. Alas, it appears from canon that it was not so great for maintaining a connection with the Force and doing the Force's will.

:D Thanks! I'll do that!
